07.01.10 2009, a year full of records for BSCA!

An increase in passengers of 33% compared to 2008

Brussels South Charleroi, the most accessible airport in Belgium, closed 2009 with a new record, a total of 3.937.187 passengers were registered against 2,957,026 in 2008, an increase of 33%! December was also exceptional as 325,610 passengers were registered, totalling an increase of 38%!

The airport of Brussels South Charleroi constantly comes up with new destinations. Jetairfly, who recently launched Djerba, Murcia and Monastir, will open 6 new destinations in 2010 (Istanbul, Antalya, Heraklion, Rhodes, Al Hoceima and Tangier).  Wizz Air has increased the frequency of its flights to Prague and Ryanair has opened 18 new routes. In addition, the airport has also welcomed a new airline in May: Air Arabia Maroc offers flights to Casablanca. The year 2009 has been a particularly rich year for new BSCA destinations, as 23 new routes were opened and 14 others have already been planned for 2010.

The continuous development of the Friendly Airport has led to the recruitment of numerous additional staff. In 2009, BSCA directly employed 20% more people, which positions BSCA as a major actor in the socio-economic development of the Charleroi region.

Jean-Jacques Cloquet, CEO ad interim of BSCA:

"These excellent results reflect among other things the continuous extension of activities by our existing clients and the arrival of Air Arabia Maroc on our runway. Our new terminal is also destined to play an important role and the installation of the ILS Category III (since January 2009), which ensures a quick flight rotation in all weather. The new destinations in 2009 have been a big hit with the travellers, who are continuously looking for the lowest fares combined with having an easily accessible friendly airport.  We will continue to work on increasing the level of comfort for  travellers, commercial partners and airport infrastructure. The airport constructs currently 1,500 additional low cost parking places and the access roads are enlarged to maintain or even improve the satisfaction figure of 7 on a scale of 10 the airport received from its passengers in 2009.”
